The Cumbrian town of Workington has a brand new footbridge thanks to the concentrated hard work of the Army and the focussed support of the community. The military bridge took just a week to construct and is very similar to one erected in Helmand Province by British troops. November’s floods resulted in the destruction of several bridges along the River Derwent, and the building of the bridge has been met with a great deal of joy by the townspeople – who gathered together for its opening on the 7th of December.
It’s not common to see a construction project come to fruition so quickly, but it is certainly a testament to what can be achieved with team work. Both the Army and the townspeople were fully behind the project – which was carried out very quickly due to the great need for it.
