Team Building Events Taken To The Limit

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Team building events aren’t just for folks sat at a desk from 9 to 5, the royal family are taking part too. Prince Harry was recently seen out on what has been described as a team building event, but according to the tabloids, it was more of a fancy dress drinking session.

Team building events are about cooperation and developing skills that can be applied in the workplace. The Prince and fellow flying students from RAF Shrewsbury were dressed in themed golf gear when they spent a whopping £400 in less than an hour at a nearby Vodka bar.

The spokesperson from RAF Shrewsbury insists that it was a team building exercise, before adding that the students aren’t allowed to drink for at least 12 hours before taking to the air, therefore they were justifiably letting their hair down. It is possible that the only skill developed during this particular team building event was stretching the imagination.

Why is Team Building so Important?

The term ‘team building’ has in recent years become a keyword that has many connotations. In terms of corporate team building events, team building is important for group skills, communication and the bonding that it creates. The activity that is planned, be it a quiz or sport activity will always be an impact learning experience. The events that are carefully planned for companies provide realistic experiences that can later be applied to work situations.

The success of companies and organisations does rely on the ability of individuals to work well as a team, working together for common goals. Taking employees out of the work environment helps remove political and personal barriers and eliminates distractions so individuals can have fun. The benefits of these activities are so important that many corporations have added team building activities into their training curriculum.
